Canopy Connection Shops & Mainstreet – Porirua’s City Centre
Located in the heart of Porirua City between the MegaCentre and North City Shopping Centre and include the traditional retail shops and CBD offices. This area is characterised by a row of distinctive white canopies that provide shoppers with protection from the elements. With approximately 300 free car park, and over 150 business tenants, offices, and shops, dotted around the city centre. Included are the financial services such as banks, law firms as well as many other professional offices, restaurants, bars, cafes, retailers and an extensive range of community services.
Canopy Connection is based on the Mainstreet Programme model. MainStreet programmes are business community revitalisation programmes.
Vision Statement
The city centre will be a visually attractive, active and safe Hub, specialising in niche market shops, and services for business people, retailers and shoppers.
Funding
The funding for the Canopy Connections activites comes from a targeted rate that is levied against the buidlings located within the Canopy Connection area.
Canopy Connection activities include:
- City Centre and local retal marketing and promotions
- Supporting and or running local community events
- Implementing or supporting City Safety Initiatives
- Exploring redevelopment opportunities
- Networking with local building owners, business and retailers
