Established in 1983 Porirua Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary association of companies and individuals engaged in business activities in the Porirua region. It is dedicated to the development of international, national and regional and local trade through:
- freedom of enterprise for those who by their individual and corporate talents contribute real economic, social and cultural wealth to the community.
- the development of a market economy in which there is minimal interference from central and local government.
- the strengthening of Porirua's place as a commercial, retail and industrial centre.
- assisting the development of the region in creating a desirable commercial and industrial environment for its citizens

Objects of the Chamber
To engage in any activity that will promote the interests of the people of Porirua – being those people who reside or who intend to reside and/or work, or the business firms that are established or are intended to be established and carry on business, in Porirua. It is intended that the Chamber be involved in and assist with the provision of research, advice, financial assistance, advertising and promotion that will encourage or result in the development of businesses (whether new or existing), the creation, retention and enhancement of employment opportunities and other activities of a similar nature in Porirua.
To provide a forum for the Members of the Chamber to discuss mutual problems and matters affecting the conduct of their respective businesses and to promote cooperation and solutions between the Members
Chamber Governance
The Board of the Porirua Chamber of Commerce is the decision making body of the Chamber. The Board shall consist of no fewer than six (6) and no more than ten (10) Directors who are elected or appointed.
There shall be a Chairperson and a Deputy Chairperson as well as three Chairs of specific industry groups.
Industry groups are established to ensure the board is representative of the Porirua Business Community currently the industry groups are; Retail, Manufacturing, Building and Construction and Professional & Business Services. Industry groups’ responsibilities are to provide a proactive advocate in the interests of that specific group of members.
Chamber Membership
The Chamber shall consist of those Members subsequently admitted or subscribed to membership in accordance with Chamber Rules. Members of the Chamber shall pay an annual subscription and membership can either be Individual Members and/or Corporate.
